But man.... this thing is a hoot to drive anyway! The kind of fun that has my wife screaming at me “slow down, we have kids you asshole!!!!” and “Why would you turn off the traction control before you hit those turns, you moron???”...

And then we got home, and I was promptly rewarded with post-adrenaline coitus. So my overall review of the current generation Miata, even with the auto, is a solid 8/10. The paddle shifters in sport mode actually do a pretty reasonable imitation of manual shifting, the sport mode actually holds revs to redline, and with all of the electro-nannies switched off, this car can be thrown through a round-a-bout at approximately 5 0mph. Steering was tight, chassis was tight, the only reason it didn’t get a 10/10 was that at 255 pounds on a 5-10 frame, that little roller skate was a TIGHT fit for this guy...

This is what I’ve been saying.  This car is a treat, regardless of transmission.

I found that the ND auto is actually quite fun, but I still found the paddles useless. Just leaving it in full auto mode was fine for me street driving at least. I also am continuously jealous how damn fast those things are completely stock. Body roll for days but its still way faster than my NB. Seat adjustments and interior storage space were also worse than my NB. I think its interesting how small the car is for such a new car, I am perplexed how Mazda was able to achieve that while still meeting safety standards nowadays. Especially without making the car heavier or cost a lot more.

Oh man, I just tried on another 2019 ND at the dealer during my lunch break!

At 6'3", I have never fit in any Miata. With the ‘19 ND’s new telescopic wheel, I actually juuuuust make it.

Now I am so tempted!!

I would only be able to do a helmet with the top down though.

Tried out an S2000 earlier in the week, but couldn’t really move my legs much around the steering wheel. :( :( :(

A little bit of lube goes a long way when dealing with tight spaces.
